(AP)? NEW DELHI ? India's weather office has warned residents along parts of the country's southeastern coast that Cyclone Thane is likely to cause heavy rains and gale-force winds.
The India Meteorological Department said Friday morning that Thane is centered in the Indian Ocean, 22 miles (35 kilometers) southwest of the town of Pondicherry, also known as Pudducherry.
The weather office said it was likely the storm would weaken and move westwards.
It warns of heavy rains and winds of speeds reaching 70 miles (110 kilometers) an hour until noon Friday before slowing down.
The seas are expected to be very rough along the coast of Pondicherry and its neighboring areas of southern Andhra Pradesh and the northern coast of Tamil Nadu. Fishermen have been warned not to venture out.

Enterbrain is back with another round-up of Japanese sales figures, this time wrapping it's counting tendrils around some 3DS sales data. The handheld from Nintendo seems to be doing fine in the wake of Sony's PlayStation Vita release, surpassing 4 Million systems sold with 510,629 moved in the week leading up to Christmas.
That puts the 3DS ahead of the Vita by 13% in the week's sales. Surely Mario and company helped drive sales with a pair of million unit sellers. Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land moved software with 3DS units to the tune of 2 Million copies.

(Reuters) ? Two U.S. food makers have voluntarily recalled snacks contaminated by peanuts, while another firm increased its recall of alfalfa products due to salmonella contamination, the Food and Drug Administration said on Sunday.
Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Eillien's Candies, Inc. recalled its Yogurt Raisins, Granola Mix and Cinnamon Granola Mix products while Maribel's Sweets Inc of New York recalled its New York Handbag Collection chocolates because the products may contain undeclared peanuts, the FDA said.
Both companies said there have been no reports of illness, but warned that people with peanut allergies could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consumed the products.
"The recall was initiated when it was discovered that Yogurt Covered Peanuts may have been mixed with Yogurt Covered Raisins," Eillien's said.
Eillien's recall affects products with a "sell by" date prior to December 22, 2012 and that were distributed throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Colorado.
The contaminated Maribel's Sweets chocolates, which may contain tree nuts or peanuts, are packaged in either blue or red boxes with varying quantities -- 9, 16, 25, or 100 -- and distributed between November 1 and December 23 of this year, the company said.
Maribel's Sweets said the contamination problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.
The recalled chocolates were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders, the company said.
Meanwhile, Texas-based Green Valley Food Corp has increased to 6,723 the number of cases it recalled of its "Let's Grow Healthy Together!" alfalfa sprouts, up from an initial recall of 650 cases on Friday.
The product, packaged in small plastic containers, was distributed to retail chains and food distribution centers in Texas, the company said.
On December 12, "a random sample was taken from a customer we currently supply. The product tested positive for Salmonella," an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, the company said.
There have been no confirmed illnesses related to the recalled product, the company said.

Aveo Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: AVEO) has launched a Phase 2 trial to test its cancer drug candidate tivozanib, in combination with the approved drug Avastin, in patients with colorectal cancer. The drug candidate is also being tested in a Phase 3 trial for patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma.
This new trial, called BATON-CRC, is part of a series of trials designed to discover whether tivozanib could work especially well in patients with certain genetic biomarkers, and it is being led by Aveo?s Japanese partner Astellas Pharma Inc. It has begun enrolling participants and plans to include approximately 252 patients at about 80 centers in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe.
?BATON-CRC is further example of Aveo?s commitment to patient care and advancing the science behind biomarkers,? Aveo Chief Medical Officer Dr. William Slichenmyer said in a statement. ?The identification and development of relevant biomarkers through our Human Response Platform is a core component of our oncology drug development efforts. We plan to use biomarker data from BATON-CRC and BATON-RCC to inform our clinical development strategy in an effort to bring tivozanib to the patients who will benefit most.?
The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 140,000 men and women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and nearly 50,000 will die of the disease in the U.S.
Dear Debt Adviser: I am emailing you in hopes of getting some honest advice. I recently owned a condo in Atlanta, and I financed it with two mortgages. I used a first mortgage and a home equity loan/line of credit. This was not my primary residence. I?m one of the many people who tried to rent out my condo because I couldn?t sell and break even. Long story short: The bank foreclosed three weeks ago. I continue to get threatening calls from the bank concerning my equity loan. So my question is: What should I do about the loan balance? I don?t have the money to pay it off. Will they take me to court, garnish my wages or just keep calling me? What?s your advice? Thanks in advance.? AdamDear Adam: If this wasn?t your primary residence, then I?ll assume you bought this condo as an investment hoping to make money. When an investor plunks down money on an asset, it is often said they are making a bet. In your case, you bet and lost. As a result, the rules that govern unpaid mortgage debts in your situation are different from those of a homeowner who buys and loses a home he or she bought as a primary residence.
Expect your lender to come after you for the deficiency balance after the property is sold. Yes, they will sue you and go after wages to the extent allowed by state law. If you were in a nonrecourse state (Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Texas, Utah and Washington), you could not be sued for the deficiency. In addition, state laws vary on what actions lenders can pursue in collecting from a homeowner for deficiency balances once a home has been foreclosed upon, is sold in a short sale or otherwise falls short of the full loan balance due.
In your state of Georgia, the lender must file an application to collect a deficiency balance with the court along with proof the home has sold. The lender must do this no later than 30 days after the home sells in order to collect the debt. If more than 30 days have expired after the sale of the home, the application would be thrown out by the court. The trouble is, banks may hold on to the home for months or years after a foreclosure before the home is sold. As a result, it is important to stay in touch with your lender or a Realtor so you will know when the home is sold and if the 30 days is up. Any conversations with the bank will likely continue to be unpleasant because you don?t have the money you owe them. Still, it is to your advantage to keep the communication lines open.
As to what you might do about the debt, my suggestion is to try to come to some sort of payment plan with the bank. Also review your other assets to see if you can borrow on them or sell them outright to make a dent in the bill. I spoke to Matthew Harvey, supervisor for the Homeownership Preservation Foundation at Take Charge America. He recommends seeking the advice of a real estate or bankruptcy attorney to learn all the possible legal ramifications and your options due to the foreclosure. Remember, you will probably have tax considerations on any forgiven amounts for your first or your second mortgages. The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007 does not apply to investments or second residences. So, even if you escape the bank?s collectors, you?ll still have to deal with the Internal Revenue Service to pay a hefty tax bill as a result of the foreclosure ? and the IRS is a creditor you don?t want to owe.
The bottom line is you can almost certainly expect your lender to attempt to collect the deficiency balance on your mortgages. My advice is to try to come to terms with the bank or explore your legal remedies. This is one debt you don?t want to ignore.
